Chapter 2 : She''s Back!
Five years later.
International Airport.
Braylon stepped out of the airport terminal, looking at the familiar city as memories flooded back.
Five years ago, she and her son were thrown into the sea by Zoey, but she survived.
She was pregnant with twins at the time. After being rescued, she gave birth to a daughter. Once everything was settled, she brought her daughter back to the country.
Now, her once severely burned face had transformed into a completely different one.
Now, she was called Brenda.
At that moment, a black SUV pulled up by the roadside, and a woman in her thirties, dressed in professional attire, got out and walked up to Brenda. "Sorry, there was traffic. I''m late."
Brenda collected her thoughts and smiled. "Thank you, Joan."
Joan took Brenda''s suitcase and walked towards the trunk.
Brenda opened the back door and got into the car.
After placing the luggage in the trunk, Joan got into the driver''s seat, started the car, and said, "Mrs. Rockefeller agreed to let you be Nathan''s bride to ward off bad luck. The chosen date is three days from now."
Everything was going as expected.
Brenda responded with a faint "Hmm" and leaned back in her seat, closing her eyes to rest.
Nathan was the eldest grandson of the Rockefeller Family and Jeffrey''s half-brother. Six months ago, he became a vegetative state due to a car accident.
Mrs. Rockefeller was a devout Buddhist. After hearing from a highly respected monk that marrying Nathan might bring a glimmer of hope, she immediately began planning the wedding.
The Rockefeller Family was a renowned and prestigious family in Nymeria, and their family business, the Rockefeller Group, was a globally famous multinational corporation. So, even though Nathan was in a vegetative state, many women still wanted to marry him.
The reason Brenda stood out among the many women was that she offered an irresistible deal.
She was back.
She would make Jeffrey and Zoey pay for what they owed her. The revenge for her father''s and son''s deaths would be paid in blood!
**
Three days later.
In the dressing room of a star-rated hotel, Brenda had just put on her wedding dress when there was a knock on the door.
She opened the door to see a woman dressed in luxurious clothes and with exquisite makeup. Brenda''s hand on the doorknob tightened instantly as she suppressed the surge of hatred in her heart and greeted with a faint smile, "Sister-in-law."
Zoey rolled her eyes disdainfully. "Who do you think you are? Do you really think you''re part of the Rockefeller Family? You''re just a slut who had a child out of wedlock. How dare you think you can be my sister-in-law?
Sign the prenuptial agreement. You won''t inherit my brother''s estate in the future. You might fool Grandma, but you can''t fool me.
Don''t think I don''t know you''re trying to advance by retreating. But even if you manage to marry into the Rockefeller Family and somehow get a share of the estate, do you think you can enjoy it peacefully?"
Brenda''s smile faded slightly. "What do you mean?"
"Here''s five million. Take the money and leave now, and you can walk away unscathed. Otherwise, you should know that with my status, crushing you would be as easy as crushing an ant." Zoey handed over a check, her eyes filled with malice and murderous intent.
Brenda''s smile disappeared completely, and she said coldly, "I''d like to see just how capable the second daughter-in-law of the Rockefeller Family really is."
Zoey hadn''t expected Brenda to say that. After a moment of stunned silence, she said angrily, "Since you don''t know what''s good for you, don''t blame me for being ruthless!"
"Anytime."
"You..."
"The ceremony is about to start. I''ll be going now." Brenda glanced at the corner, a hint of cold mockery in her eyes, then lifted her wedding dress and walked downstairs with composure.
Zoey''s face turned red with anger. Seeing Jeffrey come out from the side, she walked over with a frown. "Honey, she''s tougher than we thought."
Jeffrey looked at Brenda''s back, his eyes dark. "I''ll make her regret today''s decision."
The wedding proceeded quickly.
Nathan couldn''t be present, so the entire wedding had a bride but no groom.
Brenda ignored the guests'' whispers and went through all the wedding procedures alone.
That evening, Mrs. Rockefeller, Kate, escorted Brenda to the door of the bridal chamber. "Go on in. Talk to Nathan, get close to him. You''re here to bring good luck. Only if Nathan absorbs your good fortune does he have a chance of waking up."
Brenda nodded, watching Kate leave before pushing the door open and stepping inside.
The bedroom was a sea of red, decorated festively, embodying the concept of bringing good luck to the fullest.
The man on the wedding bed had deep-set features and a chiseled face, his quiet, sleeping form a stark contrast to the once decisive and ruthless head of The Rockefeller Family.
Was this her new husband? He was incredibly handsome, but unfortunately, he was in a vegetative state.
Brenda sat down on the edge of the bed. "My name is Brenda. I''m your wife. I''m 26 years old, a single mom with a five-year-old daughter."
After introducing herself, Brenda didn''t know what else to say to someone who couldn''t respond. She stared at Nathan''s peaceful face for a moment, thinking she should get closer. She lifted the blanket and poked his arm.
Her gaze drifted down to his excessively long legs, and she couldn''t resist touching them. Suddenly, she saw his fingers twitch.
Did they move?
